After three years of reading fanfiction, my taste have changed time and time again. What started as curiousity has become something more. I have read stories that have made me cry, laugh and snort in disgust and sometimes leave me breathless. These rare gems are stories that I will always carry with me and I want to share them with all of you. All are bottom Draco, some switching or Draco-centric. I do warn you though that my choices will most likely not be popular stories that have been discussed in this community or are well-known, but please do read them. Again, these are the stories that have left an impact on me beyond being a very engaging storyline. I hope that you enjoy them and please do leave reviews for these authors- they've earned them.


Title: A Boy Named Draco
Author: Jillian K 
Summary:Draco the squib grows up unwanted but not unloved.
Warnings: M/M light slash relationship (in later parts), some child abuse (both physical and emotional. The story contains many instances of angst and a very tortured Draco.

Why? It makes my heart clench and really answers the question whether environment or genetics really influences who you are. Plus, it touches on the fact that one doesn't need to be super powerful to fight evil, all you really need is courage.

Title: A Death Eater Manifesto

Summary: One-shot. The history of the war and the rise of Voldemort as told by Draco Malfoy. Compliant up to HBP. Just a hint of slash.

Why? Realistic. Very realistic. You can't help, but draw parallels between JKR' HP and our world. History truly is one of the most subjective areas that has far reaching consequences we might not want to admit to ourselves. I have no words. Draco is raw and true. We are both victims and agressors when we decide to stand back and do nothing. A must read.

Title: Adrift in a Sea of Paper Lanterns

Summary: In a seaside village on the island of Yim Tin Tsai, there exists a young Englishman who lives in a dilapidated shack and takes daily walks on the beach. (Distance has no way of making love understandable.)
Warnings: None

Why: Well-written. Draco's thoughts and emotions come alive that you just don't know who to root for in the end.

Title: Back in Time
Author: Shadowglove
Summary: In an AU future where Voldermort wins, an accident in the supplies closet send Draco back in time to the days of the Marauders. To his horror he's sorted into GRYFFINDOR and the father of his rival, James Potter, suddenly won't leave him alone.

Why? One of the best Draco time travel fics I have read. After a while, Harry going back in time gets tedious, plus there are few James/Draco fics out there and this one is one of the best. More should be written.

Title: Better Left Dead

Why? As I have mentioned before, I've read hundred of HP stories that I have noted certain cliches and biases. This is one of them: if Draco cheats, writers treat him with contempt and suffers, but if Harry cheats he always has an excuse and Draco always pins after him and never moves on, so after one lousy apology they live happily ever after. This oneshot deals with this subject in a realistic matter. Honestly, what did you expect would happen? is the question that the author poses.

Title: Better When We're Together

Summary: In which Ron is sorted into Slytherin, and it all goes to hell from there.
Warnings: Ron/Draco. but give this a chance

Why: This has one of the best sorting hat and character interaction scenes ever! I might not love Ron, but he's a chess player, so it is not a far-fetch idea to see him end up in Slytherin. Plus, this is so ironic, especially seeing how Harry acts; he's such a hypocrite! Also, the Ron and Draco interaction feels natural that I can see the attraction and why they end up together.

Title: The Clay Jar

Summary: Draco simply loves to be spoiled. So he's decided to try his hand at being a kept boy.
Warnings: magical books, fairy tales, genderfuckery, mischief, Sexy!Draco and TightLippedSexMachine!Snape. Harry/Draco; Snape/Draco (no intercourse); Draco/Others (no intercourse, more suggestive and flirty than sex) Please read, it is not as bad as it sounds.

Why: Beautifully written, really captures my imagination.

Title: Crossing the Canal

Summary: Harry is trying to find himself and Draco is trying to hide away. An unexpected meeting in Amsterdam teaches them that the past is nothing but water under the bridge, and that sometimes, what you need most is just a bit of bad luck.

Title: Dubious Honor

Summary: Short, simple story. When Voldemort's demise brings about another Boy Who Lived, Draco suddenly realises that there are things about that title which no one actually says.

Why: Death Eaters are always treated with contempt as loveless human beings, but that is not true. Snape became a spy b/c of Lily and no matter how badly Draco acted, all of us would have done what he did to save our families.

Title: Future Imperfect

Summary: The Order is about to make a decision that will change everything; someone is there to stop them.

Why: A classic; was the first story to introduce me to Dark Harry. Plus, I could so see the Order doing this.

Title: I, Ferret
Author: Curiouslyfic
Summary: Draco's embraced his inner Ferret. Now it's Harry's turn.
Warnings: Fluffy, sweet, well-intentioned Harry/Draco slash. Also, Veela!Draco and mpreg. OCC? Switching?

Why? Not only do I love the story, but I love the vows in italics. Plus, the Harry/Draco interaction is both sweet and adorable. They just belong together!

Title: Marginal Notes

Summary: When you're 18, and nothing is as it was meant to be, sometimes it can be hard to let the right people know what you are thinking. Thankfully, Draco Malfoy owns a quill.

Why? This will one day become a classic for possessiveHarry! Although I feel bad for Draco, I can't help but root for Harry. A unique story dealing with this characterization.

Title: Second Place

Summary: There's a reason why Lucius Malfoy doesn't love his only son as much as he should.
Warnings: No slash pairings, but Draco-centric.

Title: See those boys? I bet they're in love

Summary: A tale of a little boy who was different in a very special way

Why: This is the story that I will print and save to one day show my children, no matter their sexual orientation. Really teaches you that love is boundless and wow, I just love this one. The first time I read this gem, I cried. A must read.

Title: Stories of the Saccharine Kind
Author: Xmmconfesses
Summary: Draco and Harry may not be exactly the same, they're probably completely different. But like two pieces of a jigsaw, that are rarely the same shape, they're perfect for each other.
Warnings: A series of one-shots; very fluffy. There is no definitive top as the sex is implied, so it can be bottom Draco or switching.

Why:  Makes you feel warm and fluffy inside, so it is a great way to cheer you up after a bad day, a depressing read or after you read a bad fic that made you wish you could scrub your brain clean.. 

Title: Times Like These

Summary: At times like these, Harry wonders what it would have been like.
Warnings: Pre-slash or one-sided feelings?

Why: When you really think about, fanfiction is all a "what-if" and this story just drives this point home. At the end, I can't just help, but feel wistful and sad.


Title: The Great Hogwarts Veela Hunt

Summary: Harry's convinced Draco Malfoy is a Veela. Why else would Harry find himself suddenly attracted to Malfoy? Ron and Hermione are convinced Harry's bonkers, and do their best to prevent any damage. But when the DA gets involved, things start to go awry.

Why:  After reading so many veela stories, they all become cliche after a while or very predictable, so for me this is the best veela Draco story ever.

Title: Those You Let to Fall

Why: Another thought provoking piece by Gerri. I love JKR, but when you really think about it, Harry Potter and the wizarding world are prejudice. All Slytherins are evil? Really, what about Petter Pettigrew? This is something all fanfic writers and readers should read, regardless whether you hate or love slash.

Title:  Of Pain and Eternity

Summary:  April 22nd, 2000. A Ministry official arrives in Godric's Hollow, with a package for Harry Potter. The contents will remind him of a time where he was in love with a boy called Draco Malfoy, and the events that changed the time forever.
Warnings: I have only read this two times and try not to read it any more as it always breaks my heart.

Title: Your Ten Things

Summary: Draco has a admirer who writes to him every night listing things they love about him. He writes back, and thinks of them as a diary. With each letter he falls more for them, but with each second he falls more for another. How can he pick between the two?

Why? Creative and well-written. I usually keep away from non-magic fics, but this one just grabbed my attention and won as my favorite muggleHarry/muggleDraco story of all time.

Title: Happy Birthday, Sweetheart! (prequel) of I'm a Slave for You

Summary: The story of how Draco Malfoy came to be Draco Potter, Harry Potter's slave wife.Story told through snapshots of their lives. Snarky!Bottom!Draco and Lovey-Dovey!Possessive!Harry. AU but contains magic.
Warnings: rimming, felching, spanking, slight traces of sarcasm, mpreg, cross-dressing, slave!Draco, owner!Harry, and copious amounts of dirty talking. Forced feminization. WIP

Why? My guilty pleasure that really got me into these kinks. More stories of Draco involving forced/voluntary feminization should be written. If you like this, The Perfect Wife by all_not_well is a good read.
