I'm almost embarrassed to ask for help in locating this fic because my brain's gone all smudgy, and I don't remember many specifics of the plot. It's been so long since I've read it, but my brain is waffling between two scenarios (which, admittedly, could both be wrong):

a) Either a story based on the same type of plot as "Turn", by the wonderful Saras_girl, only with Draco as the character who is thrown into an alternate reality with a chance to see "what if..." or

b) A story where Draco is placed in a position where only he is able to "save" someone, (is it Harry? Teddy Lupin?). He does so, but is "lost" in the process.

Both of these scenarios culminate in Draco deciding to let Harry go, because he doesn't feel that he's really worthy of him. Now, here's what I DO remember:

Before Draco is completely lost to Harry, he is pulled aside by a higher power and informed, gently but firmly, that he can't really go. He can't, because if he does, it will destroy Harry.

In a scene which is a breath-hitcher, Draco is told that he was made for Harry. That he is Harry's fated soul-mate. That The Fates, in their wisdom, reached through time and created him specifically FOR Harry, as a reward for all that Harry had sacrificed.

I would love to read this again. If this sounds familiar to anyone, please post up a link.
