1. I’m new to Livejournal (hereafter, LJ) and as of now, I do not have a LJ account. Do I need to get one to participate in the comm?

  • That would depend on the level of participation you’re interested in. You can leave a comment to any posts but anonymous comments will be screened. It will be the post starter/creator’s choice to unscreen them.

  • Also, the comm’s Masterlist of Bottom!Draco Recs is member-locked. You’d not only need to register an LJ account but in order to view the Masterlist, you’d also need to join the comm as a member.

  • You need to both register both an LJ account and join the comm as member to post.

2. I’m new and I’ve just registered a LJ account, do I need to join as a member to the comm in order to participate?

  • That would depend on the level of participation you’re interested in. You do not need to be a member of the comm in order to comment to a post. However, certain entries are member-locked, including but not limited to the comm’s Masterlist of Bottom!Draco Recs. You’d have to join the comm as a member to view them.

About posting

3. How do I add a link to another journal or web site?
4. How do I hide part of my post behind a link? What is an lj-cut or lj-spoiler tag?
5. How do I tag my posts?

  • When writing your post into the Rich Text (or HTML) editor, at the bottom of the Rich Text (or HTML) box there is a smaller menu-like editor box with options for you to fill and/or select. There is an option titled “Tags:” and an empty box beside it, followed by a “Select Tags” link. Click on that link, tick the appropriate tags and hit the “Select” button.  After all that, you are free to submit your post by hitting the “Post to” button at the bottom of the page.

  • If you need a tag that is not in the current list of tags, please contact the mods HERE to request for one.

  • If you are posting from a device that uses an LJ App (not your computer) and you find yourself unable to tag your post, do not fret. Just come back later when you’re free to edit that post and add in the tags. Just please remember to do so. The mods would only remind you gently should you forget about it after an indefinite length of time.

What kind of fics (fest entries or others) are accepted in this comm?

Simply put, what kind of fics can I rec/post or write for the [livejournal.com profile] bottom_draco comm (be it as a fest entry or a random fic post)? Before we explore the specifics of that issue, we'd first like to be absolutely clear that....

We, the mods of [livejournal.com profile] bottom_draco interpret the term "Bottom" literally as Draco being the receptive partner (the one being penetrated) in his relationships/bedroom activities with his partner - not as a determinant (or stereotype) of submissive/passive/effeminate behaviour. But should you want to equate the term "Bottom" to being submissive/passive/effeminate, that is perfectly fine too.

Please refer to the section below for more information.

About Bottom!Draco, Switching!fics  and Everything In Between

6. There was this fic I read the other day and I thought about sharing it here… It was about Draco and he was all badass and dominant but he “bottoms” in his relationship with XXX. On the other hand, XXX was pretty pathetic because he was very insecure and he needed Draco to comfort him all the damn time. Plus, I think he was quite submissive too. But hey, at least XXX “tops” – that counts, right?

  • Yes.

  • “Bottoming” in a relationship/sexual act does not necessarily equate being the weaker, more pathetic or needy partner in the relationship. Neither does it mean submission nor passiveness.  As long as Draco is the receptive partner (the one being penetrated) in his relationships/bedroom activities then yes, that fic is welcome in this Comm.

  • However, you might want to add a small note alongside the fic, briefly explaining the sexual dominance/submission situation – not compulsory but we would appreciate that you’d do so. (E.g.  Independent!Domineering!Bottom!Draco and Insecure!Abused!Harry.)

  • The same situation applies to fanfic/fest authors just as well.

7. There was another fic that was Harry/Draco. They both took turns “topping” and “bottoming” but I’ve counted! And Draco certainly “bottomed” more than Harry. Can I rec/post it here?

  • Yes.

  • As mentioned in the Comm’s Rules, “Switching!Fics” are fine as long as it is predominantly “Bottom!Draco”.

  • However, the fic must be accompanied by a warning or a label that says it is a “Switching!Fic”.

  • You can be as detailed as you want (e.g. “Top!Draco” in chapter 7, 10 and 14, while the rest is “Bottom!Draco”) or just slap a simple “Switching!” warning beside the fic.

  • The same situation applies to fanfic/fest authors just as well.

8. There was this Harry/Draco fic that I seriously thought was “Bottom!Draco” because Draco was so submissive and he did “bottom” - but only once and then towards the end of the fic, bam! Harry “bottomed” *blinks*. Granted those TWO  are the ONLY sex scenes in the entire fic but… but… it’s now a tie!

  • Yes, that fic is welcome in this Comm.

  • We accept “Submissive!Draco” fics too. Also, it helps that there are only TWO sex scenes in the fic and Draco “bottomed” in one of them.

  • However, the fic must be accompanied by a warning or a label that says it is a “Switching!Fic”.

  • You can be as detailed as you want (e.g. Submissive!Bottom!Draco and Harry only “bottomed” once) or just slap a simple “Switching!” warning beside the fic.

  • The same situation applies to fanfic/fest authors just as well.

9. There was a fic in which it was only briefly mentioned or subtly alludes to the fact that Draco is interested in “Topping” his partner but there was NO actual “Top!Draco” sex scene. In fact, there is NO sex scene at all. At least none that involves actual penetration. Can I rec/post it here?

  • Yes, of course.

  • Seeing as this fic contains NO graphic “Top!Draco” scene and/or NO “penetrative” sex scenes in the fic, then you do not even need to put a “Top!Draco” or “Switching” warning/label on it - because it does not make sense to warn people about something that did not happen or something that Draco just fantasize about  – provided that the mentioning or allusion to a fantasized “Top!Draco” scene is only briefly mentioned in passing or subtly implied but DID NOT actually happen.

  • The same situation applies to fanfic/fest authors just as well.

10. There was a fic in which Draco mostly “Tops” in all his previous relationships – and the fic did describe those scenes pretty graphic too – but when it comes to XXX, it was pure love and Draco “bottomed” for him and only him. Seeing as the main pairing in this fic is Draco/XXX and Draco “bottoms” for XXX, can I rec/post it here?

  • Yes.

  • The main requirement in this Comm is for incoming fics to be “Bottom!Draco” in the MAIN PAIRING. Whether Draco “Topped” or “Bottomed” in his other relationships that are NOT the focus of the story,  that is irrelevant.

  • However, the fic should be accompanied with a warning or a label that briefly describes that fic contains BOTH “Top!Draco” and “Bottom!Draco” scenes.

  • This should NOT be labeled as a “Switching!Fic” because Draco “Topped “ and “Bottomed” with different people that are not the other half of the main pairing.

  • You can be as detailed as you want (e.g. Graphic “Top!Draco” scenes in all his previous relationships but “Bottom!Draco” with XXX).

  • The same situation applies to fanfic/fest authors just as well.

11. This time it was a threesome fic featuring Draco/A/B, with A and B being both male. Draco both “Topped” and “Bottomed” in this relationship and there was one threeway sex scene wherein Draco was sandwiched in between A and B and ended both “Topping” someone while “Bottoming” for the other. Can I rec/post it here?

  • In this specific case (only), that would depend most importantly on Draco’s preference on exhibiting sexual dominance or submission during the act – preferably a Draco who is more submissive or slightly less dominant than his sexual partners.

  • The reason for this being the majority of Bottom!Draco fans do not like reading about Draco being both dominant and submissive at once in a threesome, nor do they like reading graphic descriptions of Draco actively "Topping".

  • The fic should be accompanied with a warning or a label that briefly describes that the fic contains BOTH “Top!Draco” and “Bottom!Draco” scenes.

  • However, if Draco is clearly the more sexually dominant partner of the threesome (no question about that), then NO, the fic should NOT be recced/posted here.

  • The same situation applies to fanfic/fest authors (who are interested in posting fics with content similar to this particular case to the comm) just as well.

12. Can Draco be “Topped” in a het relationship (a.k.a “pegging” – wherein the man adopts the receptive role that involves him being anally penetrated usually with a dildo or a strap-on by the woman)? Is het!bottom!Draco allowed?

  • In this specific case (only), that depends on the situation and the storyline.

  • We would have to review the fic in question on a case-by-case basis before allowing it to be recced/posted here.

  • Since the comm has always been geared towards M/M Bottom!Draco pairings we are going to stick with that tradition and discourage predominantly Het!Draco fics that have little to do with the concept of Bottom!Draco. However, that doesn't mean we're banning all Het!Bottom!Draco fics from this comm. It is simply that in an effort to standardize Bottom!Draco content in this comm, we would have to review the Het!Bottom!Draco fics on a case-by-case basis.

  • However, in a predominantly M/M Bottom!Draco-centric fic (with Draco/Male Character as the main pairing), if Draco was with women in the past, it's fine.

  • In all honesty, since the mods are pretty flexible when it comes to this topic, chances are as long as Draco is clearly portrayed as the submissive or less dominant partner to his female lover (especially in a fic with Het!Bottom!Draco as the main focus of the plot instead of being just a side-show), we will approve it for posting in the comm.

  • However, we would very much appreciate it if you could double check with the mods (just in case) before reccing/posting that fic/art to the comm... or writing/drawing for a [livejournal.com profile] bottom_draco fest.

  • Please make sure all fic/art in this particular case have appropriate warnings - e.g. a warning for "pegging" or "femdom" (female domination) as a kink.

About Fic Searches and Requesting for Lost/Missing Fics

13. I've heard so many good things about Maya/Mistful's fanfiction, but they are no longer found online. I would love to get my hands on pdf copies of her works. Can I ask for them here? And once I have the copies, may I share/distribute them here?

  • No, you may not - to both questions. Read this post.

  • Maya/Mistful herself has specifically request for her fics NOT to be shared/distributed anywhere online. We are going to respect her wishes and disallow the sharing of her fics in this comm. We respectfully ask that you do the same.

  • Any post/comment asking for, or offering to share/distribute Maya/Mistful's fics here in this comm will be deleted by the mods.

14. There is a fic search post that I know the answer to/the fic in question but it contains “Switching”. Can I still rec it?

  • Yes, you may go ahead and reply to the post with the fic in question.

  • However, you must put in a warning/label that informs anyone else reading the post that the fic contains “Switching”.

  • Please refer to "About Bottom!Draco, Switching!fics  and Everything In Between".

15. There is fic search post for a specific fic (not a general fic search) that I know the answer to/the fic in question but it contains an exclusively “Top!Draco”. Can I still rec it?

  • Yes, you can reply to the post with the ‘Top!Draco’ fic in question - BUT with a clear warning/label that informs anyone else reading the post that it is most definitely a ‘Top!Draco’ fic.

  • However, please refrain from further reccing it anywhere else within this community or asking more for it.

  • We will let the occasional mistake of accidentally asking for a “Top!Draco” fic slide by in just in this particular circumstance – in a specific fic search and not a general one – but only just that once.  Don't worry, we will not be banning anybody from the comm just for this simple mistake :)

The mods would like to remind you to be absolutely certain that the fic you are looking for MUST be “Bottom!Draco” or at the very least predominantly “Bottom!Draco” (if it is a “Switching!Fic”). If you are not sure or you can’t remember, you can ask for it in accio_hd_fics

16. I would like to answer to a fic search post and share some fics that are relevant to the search but unfortunately, I honestly can’t remember who Tops/Bottoms in them. Can I still answer to that fic search?

  • Yes, you can.

  • However, please remember to explain that you do not know/can’t remember who Tops/Bottoms and gently advise others that they should read the fic at their own risk.

  • E.g. "Here’s a fic but I can’t remember who Tops/Bottoms so please read at your own risk."
