Title: Telling Snidget's Story
Author: [livejournal.com profile] jm9001
Prompt: PROMPT #170
Adapted from: The New Normal
Pairing: Harry/Draco
Word Count: 9,188
Rating: T for language
Contains: Language on the shy side of rude, a dangerously adorable toddler, and just a wee bit of hating on Hufflepuffs, but only because they’re so easy to pick on.
Disclaimer: Harry Potter characters are the property of J.K. Rowling and Bloomsbury/Scholastic. No profit is being made, and no copyright infringement is intended.
Notes: So, this isn’t exactly what I expect you’d expect from an adaptation of The New Normal, but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless. It's a little bit sillier than I planned it to be, but I didn't want to force it in an angstier direction, so silliness is where it is at. My idea came from Brian’s intro/outro video to his future child in the pilot episode. Indefinite thanks to my stalwart beta, S, who begrudgingly reads everything I send her despite her opinion that I ship Harry with the wrong blond (as if, S), and who only poked me twice (and not as viciously as usual) for making fun of Hufflepuffs.
Summary: Draco tells his son the story of how he came to be, because sometimes the expression ‘it takes a village’ is a bit more literal than one would think.

Aw, Harry and Draco's child is definitely the most adorable toddler!
Loved the teasing between Pansy and Draco, loved more with Pansy's reading choices.
It was an enjoyable read! Good job.

*flailing* Okay, so there MIGHT have been squealing this morning because I hadn't even realized this prompt had been claimed. THANK YOU FOR THAT. And OhMyGod. This is just... it is brilliant. Spot on and rolling right along for every word and every second and I could barely BREATHE from the laughing. I think I snarfed my salad (I was reading over lunch).

I want to quote things, but I would have to quote the whole story. And seriously, I'm just about wordless right now. This is going on my rec list for the week, and I'm dropping recs at bestthingever and fancake over on DW, too. It is that wonderful. It's a fabulously funny story from beginning to end, and knowing the TV show only makes it doubly hysterical. Pansy as Rocky? OMG. Dying here. She is SPOT ON. I just... I want to wave my hands in the air and scream and flail because I'm out of words. FABULOUS. Perfect. Thank you for bringing to life this prompt in such an absolutely AMAZING way.

Yay! I'm so glad you liked it! I flailed a good bit when I read the prompt, so I'm super happy the resulting fic was flail-worthy :)

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it! The original source is totally worth watching, but I'm glad that the fic was still readable for people who aren't familiar with it :)

*so much squee-ing and flailing for this fic*

When I first read this, I giggled and cooed all the way through! It was soooo cute! When I'm done with it, I read it again. And again! With each time, it gets cuter and cuter! By the time I'm done reading it for the third time, I am irrevocably in love with Harry and Draco and their little family of three! It was perfectly adorable and insanely fluffy! Funny too! Like, absolutely hilarious! Your Pansy was beyond AWESOME and so was dear sweet little Lanny! Draco, Harry and Snidget were made of AWESOMENESS too! Seriously everything in this fic is soaked through with TEH FLUFF and that made the loveliest reading experience ever! Best, fluffiest laugh ever.... thank you so much for that!

P.S. Snidget has TEH AWESOME-EST NAME EVER!! *smirks*

Thank you! :D
I am ridiculously in love with their little family too... I have a soft melty spot in my grinchy little heart for Draco as a doting dad. :) I'm glad you loved Lanny. Writing her was fun, since she reminds me a bit of myself a kid: just the slightest bit odd, and wise beyond her years... Well, sort of :P

No idea about the original that this has been adapted from, but a very sweet and enjoyable read anyway. Had me chuckling x) Love the children, and Pansy in particular, brilliant characters ^_^

Thank you! The original is a hilarious and sweet sitcom, it's worth checking out. Though Snidget is my own devising, because Draco + toddler = my heart in a mushy pile of goooooooo

That was absolutely brilliant! So funny at parts, I was laughing my head off. I loved Draco. GOD, I loved how funny-crazy he was, and Harry, how patient he is with him. Naturally, he has experience. The scenes with Pansy, and the bit with Narcissa I think were my favourites. But honestly, I loved the whole thing to bits.

LOL! Harry and Draco choosing the name was awesome, too!

Great job!

Yep, Harry definitely has the patience of a saint. I think the bit with Narcissa was my favourite to write... I'm glad you liked it, too!

I normally don't like anything fluffy, but this was just adorable. There was so much silly and loving. And Pansy! She's so superb. Your fic was so fun to read after a long day of work. Great job!

This is absolutely adorable, even without knowing the original source. I love Snidget's nickname, Draco's over-reactions to everything, his defense of Astoria - everything about this makes me smile. I can't say for the adaptation, but the writing itself is very well done. :D Lovely!

Snidget's nickname is almost as great as his real name... Can you imagine the look on Snape's face if he found out a) Harry and Draco had a baby b) they named it after him c) and JAMES POTTER.
It would be the sneer to end all sneers. :P
Glad you liked it! :D

LOL it should have come with a suggestion - for best reading experience, please read all of Pansy's lines aloud in your best NeNe Leakes' impression (P.S., that's totally how I wrote her dialogue)!
Glad you enjoyed Draco's dramatics charm, and thanks for reading! :)

Aawwww this is so cute and sweet! I loved how you painted all the various characters. It was really fun to read them all. This fic was hilarious! Draco is really funny, and he had me laughing quite a lot with his wit and sarcastic humour. I especially liked their fight in front of the floo about narcissa having imperiused the surrogate. And their little son was so sweet. What a mice picture of domestic, happy harry/draco.

From: [identity profile] jm9001.livejournal.com
Thanks! The Narcissa scene was probably my favourite to write... Draco is such a drama queen sometimes, but Narcissa and Harry never miss a beat. I'm a sucker for domesticity, so I'm glad you liked it too! :)

To be honest, I'm quite wary about family pieces; simply because most of the time it comes off as too mushy, perfect, or some other style that doesn't seem quite..realistic.

However, I decided to give this one a try (thank Merlin for that) and it blew me out of the water.
Quite lovely, Draco was just the perfect touch of doting on Snidget and his hysterics and dramatics crack me up.

Thanks for sharing with us,
-Nate

Thanks for reading! I know what you mean about family fics, and I'm glad I managed to pull it off! I was a bit wary of putting Snidget in the story at first, but I couldn't help myself... I'm hopeless when it comes to Draco as a doting father! Glad you enjoyed it :)

Aww this was so incredibly cute. Severus James was adorable and his name made me laugh so much as did Draco and his theatrics. I'm a big fan of the show and I liked how you used Astoria and Daphne. Using Daphne rather than Mrs Greengrass or Grandma Greengreengrass was a clever twist. You did a great job staying true to the adaptation as well as explaining enough in the story, so knowledge of the original show was not necessary. Thank you so much for participating!

Thanks! I'm glad you liked my choice of Nana character... It was a bit of a balancing act, trying to stay as close as possible to both sets of source material! Also, the naming thing is even funnier now, since after writing this there was an episode where Brian and David argue about baby names! I think I must be psychic. Or spend too much time watching the New Normal. :P

I've never seen The New Normal, but if it is even half as cute and funny as this I think I'll love it! Draco was hilarious with his dramatic tendencies, and I loved Pansy and her novels. Astoria had a Luna-like quality that was so sweet. Such a fun read!

Oh, Pansy and her novels... :P And the New Normal is more than half as cute and funny! You should watch it! Glad you enjoyed the fic :)
