Art problem
Nov. 1st, 2006 11:39 amI'm in a bit of a crisis, here. No, this is not an art search...
I keep procrastinating all the time, and in doing so, I keep drawing these H/D sketches. And I keep posting them here, and over at some other communities. These take up a lot on people's flist pages, and I was wondering if this is bothering anyone? I mean, I know my art is crap, or rather, it lacks the slash quality, and follows more into the yaoi one.
I honestly don't feel comfortable posting these sketches in a community that doesn't like yaoi, or the seme/uke thing, or girly!draco. So my question is, should I post the art once it's coloured? Or keep it the way I'm doing, by putting up the sketch, and later on posting once it's coloured? In other words, posting BOTH the sketch, and then the coloured version. This means it would be two different posts. Am I making sense?
Or should I not post my art at all, and just keep them in my own LJ? Until I can get a good, 'slashy' one that lacks too much girlyness and seme/uke-ishness, then I should put it here?
I just hate it when someone comments or complains that the character does look girly, or that it takes the whole point of 'slash', and things like that. I see a lot of girly Harry pics when he's paired up with Snape, and no one complains about that. -grumbles- Yeah, so I'm kind of bitter here, but please give me your opinions ;)

Date: 2006-11-01 07:46 pm (UTC)I don't see a problem with posting H/D related stuff in the proper communities even if it's not necessarily to someone's taste. I don't enjoy girly!Draco, but as long as there's some sort of warning (just like some people don't like bondage or whatnot) on the info and before the cut-page, I can skip over it and its all good. Point is- you can modify how you post if you want to, but I would never say stop posting completely because that's not fair.

Date: 2006-11-01 07:56 pm (UTC)Seme/uke can be a respectable part of slash, too, of course. Slash doesn't exclusively mean a relationship in which the "roles" are switched; it depends upon the taste of the writer (or in this case, artist). And frankly, I think Draco is girlier in canon, srsly.
You don't have to be so worried abuot how people react to your work in communities like this. If they don't want to look at it, they can just skip over it, and everything is copasetic. So just keep doing your thing, yeah? I look forward to your stuff. :-)

Date: 2006-11-01 08:16 pm (UTC)And you're right...if they don't like, then it's their problem. I just don't want to have a huge angry mob of H/D fans, or rather, D/H fans grumbling at my art. Ah well...
Eeep, I was almost half-way done with Chapter 3 until my stupid cat jumped on top of my laptop (because it's warm) and moved on the keypads...and held the 'power' button for precisely 8 seconds -_-;
My cat is eeeevil, I tell you. But no worries, I WILL have it up, and I will send you the doc files for the beginning chapters.
Thanks so much for your encouragement, hon ^_^

Date: 2006-11-01 08:18 pm (UTC)I'm an art student myself and i KNOW that criticism may sometimes hurt you deeply.
I know my art is crap
One thing that I do know is that you're to never apologise for what you've created in terms of art. I think my art is mostly crap, that I lack the skill, but still, it's a way for you to express yourself.
So, keep on posting your sketches, coloured or not, on communities. However, if you post like 5 entries a day then it might be more convenient if you kind of combined them all into one big entry instead. I, for one, am on both domharry and bottom_draco communities so I get to see all the H/D posts twice anyways. of course, that's just my own problem.

Date: 2006-11-01 08:25 pm (UTC)But I do admit I'm sensitive to criticism, but I'm also very attentive. Sometimes I take them as hints on what to do better or improve. Although sometimes it just doesn't feel like...me, and ...I don't know. Have you had that happen before? *sigh*
Hm, and since you're in the same communities that I post them in, I imagine it must be a little irritating for you for it to take a lot of space. I still have them under the cut and all. But yeah, I'll try combining the sketch and coloured version in one posts ;)

Date: 2006-11-02 07:52 am (UTC)And you know how I stand with the girly!Draco issue. However, I knew yaoi and shounen ai before I ventured into slash.
At first it was kind of awkward; Because not many people would view Harry and Draco with the seme/uke perspective. I compare this feeling to wearing a yutaka to a nightclub. I completely understand where you are coming from. But just do what has already been suggseted: put up warnings - just to be courteous. It's not like you're spamming the community.
Now if only people would warn me about girly!Harry...

Put your stuff behind a cut with a warning... if they still look at it and don't like it...fuckum...
I'm a fan..you got me...
I know what I like..
People will always bash someone, I guess that's what makes them feel powerful.
Hell, if he's a girly man in your eyes..so be it...
Your art, your mind,
