Most of the participants have claimed and verified their prompts already, you may check out the prompt claiming list to see which ones has been claimed! If you are a participant and have posted your top 5 chosen prompts but have not yet received a message from us, please do not worry as we will be PM-ing you very soon!
This post is for the fest participants to find themselves a beta reader.
Now you ask, what is a "BETA"? Fanfiction.net defines a beta as a person who reads a work of fiction with a critical eye, with the aim of improving grammar, spelling, characterization, and general style of a story prior to its release to the general public. You can find more about them here.
So participants, if you are in need of a beta-reader, please comment a request for one in this post. If you are a willing beta-reader, then please offer help by commenting your service OR replying to the participant who is looking for a beta.
REMEMBER!
All discussions regarding your fic / art must be done only between you (the participant) and your beta-reader. Allowing more than the absolute minimum number of people to know your prompt defeats the purpose of the big reveal!

Date: 2009-06-09 02:29 pm (UTC)I'm a good for grammar critiquing as well as story points, style etc. I'm not writing for this fest so I could be quite fast as well.
If you want to check out some of my writing (self-betaed) click here (http://auselysium.livejournal.com/7385.html) And don't worry...it's bottom Draco. :)

Date: 2009-06-09 09:28 pm (UTC)I need a beta for this fest mostly to kick me in the pants and help me start writing. Once I get going I am fine it is just the collecting thoughts part initially that gives me grief. Let me know if you wouldn't mind.

Date: 2009-06-09 06:29 pm (UTC)I'd also be happy to beta for someone. I'm a bit anal about punctuation and grammar, and I have experience editing university papers. I'm also Canadian, but could probably do a decent job britpicking since my dad's family's from England.

Date: 2009-06-10 01:31 am (UTC)I'm thinking two kinds of crit- drawing crit (easier), then color crit (harder). Especially color crit because I'm going to be drawing something shiny and something paper-y.

Date: 2009-06-10 04:21 am (UTC)As far as my projects go, I'd love to hear your opinons in general, but I'm in desperate need of guidance when it comes to composing and drawing decent looking backgrounds.

Date: 2009-06-11 01:01 pm (UTC)Well, basically, my concern is primarily just for quality control. Some authors tend to not like having betas and we don't have a strict and mandatory beta-reading rule; so the only means to checking is well, through us reading it.
But you think, after reading, if we find several errors, we send them back to the writers or do we correct typos and such, then post them? Because personally, I can do that too but I prefer to send it back--I don't want to tamper with other people's works.

Date: 2009-06-12 05:03 am (UTC)Neither do I. It's probably better for us to let the author know if we find any errors and send it back to them unless they give us their permission to correct any mistakes we may find.

Date: 2009-06-10 09:30 pm (UTC)If you need one you can send me a PM. I have a ton of time on my hands as of right now(Just quit my job), and would love to help out. I am good with grammar, punctuation, will point out plot holes, and things that mess up the over all flow. I can be ruthless, extremely lenient, or a nice medium of the two. Whatever you need!

Date: 2009-06-10 09:59 pm (UTC)If you want a beta for plot, pov, or what have you, I'd be willing to volunteer as one for these matters, too -- and I'd be able to catch most common spelling errors as well. ;)
