Title: A Harp, A Shadow, The Wind
Author: [livejournal.com profile] lomonaaeren
Prompt: 71, Thomas the Rhymer
Pairing(s): Harry/Draco
Summary: Draco was kidnapped, his shadow stolen away, his ability to lie also taken. Harry and Draco adventure through poetry, through time, and through darkness to win both of them back
Rating: R
Disclaimer: These characters are the property of J. K. Rowling and associates. I make no claim to them.
Warning(s): Non-graphic sex, angst, foul language. This story takes place after DH, but doesn't take notice of the epilogue. Also, this is non-linear like hell and plays games with points of view.
Word Count: ~10,000
Author's Notes: Thank you very much to my friend L. for the beta. I think I incorporated most of the prompt, but unfortunately I had to leave out the prophecy and the request for Bill/Draco. Also, this is very loosely based on the fairy tale itself; I went for fairy-tale strangeness rather than the exact circumstances of the original story. However, thank you very much to my promptee for the "focus on how it happened" part, because that gave me my plot. And the rhyming couplets!

Wow, it feels JUST like a fairytale! Especially one of those REALLY long and CONFUSING ones. ;D But the end was awesome! Love Draco reaction to being able to have a choice and Harry's reaction to Draco's response.

I also really adored Draco's descriptions of how it felt to be without his shadow.

My my my. this is quite an interesting read. I actually love the couplets and try to decipher them as confusing as they may be. I love your Harry in moments where he resents helping Draco and tries to understand what Draco had gone through and when he turned his head around before being swallowed whole. I don't know whether it was about trust, but to me... it was like Harry turned around to check on Draco letting his guard down and the rest we know what happened. It's might just be me. :p

I read the A/N, and must say it would be nice to read a bill/draco in the fest. But i am not complaining, afterall H/D is my OTP. <3

I really like this - though I'm not quite sure what it was all about (confusion time here - I mean that I do but I don't...arrgh....that's about as clear as mud). Harry really isn't very nice to Draco but it's only after his encounter with the shadow that he begins to understand just what Draco went through and what Draco had been trying to explain to him along. This story is going to have me thinking for ages. I imagine what I think it is all about and what the author actually had in mind will probably end up completely different. Well done. :)

the story actually gave me the creeps. i like the dynamics of harry and draco's relationship, especially how it started with a mutual reluctance to help or be helped. draco's anguish and anger were so palpable but harry's annoyance and resistance to listen were so genuine and the more realistic, expected reaction.
the vividness with which you described falling into the abyss of darkness made me feel as if i were going through the same thing, and it was not pleasant. i congratulate you for communicating such loss, confusion and fear so well. the poetic language added to the flair, drama, and darkness of the whole fic.
i loved how draco's choice pushed the fic into a wonderful climactic end that resulted in a very promising start of what could be a wonderful relationship but without claiming a happily ever after. :D

Oh, wow. I'm fond of the source of this story, so I was very much looking forward to seeing what someone could make of it, and...wow. I'm so blown away. This is really completely incredible, and I can't wait to see who you are, because I can't say enough good about this story.

I love it. I love the magical realism you've got here, and the rhyming couplets really got me as you continued to use them. I adore your weak/strong Draco, and how he fights to retain himself, even though he's lost half of himself. I love how much it takes Harry to believe in him, and that he doesn't simply do it at the drop of a hat.

Just utterly gorgeous. Thank you for writing it. :D

I really enjoyed this. It was definitely different, and you were able to make it not only poetic, but not overly confusing (despite having to describe different ways of seeing/feeling/experiencing intangible things). The ending was just perfect to it too, feeling very resolved but not giving too much away (from Draco's perspective).

And bravo on the couplets! That is a LOT of lines to worry about and they worked out great - goodness knows I give up after about 3 sets because I can't think of anything else that rhymes!

I thought this was so very, very beautiful!!! The way the place of darkness was described was terrifying, a fall into oblivion except part of you knows what's being lost. I didn't read what the full prompt consisted of but this was definitely a magical tale! Yay for all those couplets, they definitely added to the surreality of this tale. And ohhh ohhh the ending... gorgeous, and sexy, and intense, WOW!!! I so loved that at the end too, Draco DID have a choice about what happened to him... and about telling the truth! haha Fantastic job, luv!!! *hugs*
