Title: Draco, Draco – Let Down Your Golden Hair!
Author: [livejournal.com profile] icyaurora8
Prompt: Prompt #30 - Rapunzel
Pairing(s): Harry/Draco, Ron/Hermione (in passing), past Harry/Ginny
Summary: Harry finds his job as an Auror quite boring, at least until his boss assigns him the task of tracking down a missing woman and her son. Unfortunately, things are a bit more complicated than Harry anticipates, especially when he finds out that the woman disappeared from a Ministry safe-house and that her son, a true “damsel in distress,” is Draco Malfoy.
Rating: Mature/R
Disclaimer: The Harry Potter Universe and all related characters, along with the story of Rapunzel, do not belong to me.
Warning(s): Mature language, male/male relationships, sexual content.
Word Count: 31,288
Author's Notes: Somehow, this story ended up 25,000 words longer than I expected! Thanks so much to my lovely betas, M and R, who not only gave me great advice, but were able to get through everything on time so close to the deadline! As for the story, I’m hoping that it follows the requests fairly well, though it kind of took on a life of its own :)

Oh! It was wonderful, sweet, suspense-filling and dramatic! I loved it. Great play on the fairytale prompt. Don't worry about long fics. It happens all of us sometimes.

thanks so much! I'm glad that you thought it was dramatic too, I worried a ton that I missed something vital :-)

I really enjoyed this. Although I'm slightly disappointed we never got an actual Rapunzel moment! I suppose it would have hurt quite a bit....

thanks! Originally, I almost went a completely different direction in the story (you should have seen my notes!) but I ended up liking how this Draco was portrayed more than the other, so I went with this version.

I'm actually considering (if I can find the time), doing a little side story that will have the 'smex' I didn't get to do in detail, along with a more 'Rapunzel-esque' Draco ;-)

;D Love how you managed to make the fairytale work for HD, but still manage to avoid turning Draco into a simpering idiotic damsel in distress. How he provoked Harry into his rant that gave away his true feelings was classic and well planned. *grins*

The last line between Harry and Draco was awesome. XD Rapunzel, indeed!

Thanks! I really appreciate the time you took to comment, and I really tried hard to make Draco still seem like a boy that hated the situation he was put into but didn't have a choice. I'm glad that it came off how I wanted it to.

That alwas happens to me too, something I think will be 5,000 words long ends up being 25,000! But you handled it well. I loved the idea of the tower and Harry being so considered. Loved the last line too.

*hugs*

Thanks much!

Despite the original writing I do, this is the longest I've ever written for a fanfic (not counting the multiple in-progress pieces that have never been posted), so I spent a lot of time trying to make sure all the angles were covered. I really thought it would be a simple idea, but it my mind just ran with it!

Thanks again :-)

Thanks! It seems everyone really loved the last line, and I'm glad it worked out so well, especially considering I often stress out so badly about then, lol.

That was so lovely! I loved the idea of Draco locked in a tower like Rapunzel, and the very first image we had of him soooooooo told us he was so not a girl, even with a dress on. lol

Well done. =D

Thanks a ton! I did want Draco to still seem like a guy, huffy and upset he was wearing a dress. And despite the dress, that wasn't the reason Harry kept thinking about it ;-)

Gotta love sexy Malfoy skin!

This was so lovely. Very sweet and cute, but with a menacing air about it as well. Loved the Rapunzel jokes. In fact, I loved everything.

that was such a thrill to read! very creative way of integrating the fairytale to HP canon, well-developed storyline, great attention to details, well-written action scenes, and good balance between suspense and romance. can't help but love narcissa and her not-so-subtle intervention at the end. her devotion and love for draco was admirable. erm, few spelling errors though.

slow evolution of relationship between our damsel, err draco, and his knight was enjoyable particularly because of harry's in-the-head commentaries on draco and denial, and also because it showed great promise for what could have been a wonderful HP canon epilogue. harry was such a hero but i love that draco was not such a damsel in distress. his manner of getting harry to finally act was both very gryffindor and slytherin. loved his snark and wit, but most of all loved how he translated his love into action especially when he finally did some rescuing of his own. :D

Wow, this response made me feel very good! Thank you so much for writing a long one, because I really enjoyed it :-) I'm really happy that it came across how I wanted it to, because I can be so self-conscious of my own writing. Unfortunately, just because it makes sense in my head doesn't mean that it was written as eloquently! lol.

Do you remember any of the spelling errors? I'd love to know, so I could correct them in my original. Especially if it's for brit-picking. No worries if you don't remember though, I don't expect you to wade though 35k again for it!! :-) Thanks again for the lovely comment.

Lovely. :D Good mystery, a rather confused but smitten Harry and I loved Narcissa. ♥ Well done.

Thanks! I love Narcissa too. I've become really enamored lately with her acting as a loving mother-usually I don't pay much attention, but I love that she has a totally Slytherin side in this.

I really enjoyed this. It was cute and fun.
But this line
“Richard Osbrow’s fingerprints were found on the letter. It matched his DNA on Ministry file.”
made no sense. Fingerprints != DNA

thanks so much!

and I really appreciate you pointing that out about the DNA-prints thing. I originally had it as all DNA evidence and switched it later - I thought I had corrected everything, but I obviously missed that! Now I can correct it in the original before it's posted on my website, so that's great! :-)

can you tell I watch a lot of CSI? lol.

Um, this happened a few times already with different fics. For some reason some of the links aren't working. First with Beware The Sleeping Dragon, then The Tastiest Delicacy, Cake and Chocolate, A Harp A Shadow The Wind, The Boy Who Cried Werewolf and now this one too.

Are there, perhaps, other (working) links to these fics? Thank you.(^^,)

Darn, I commented the link to the tastiest delicacy, but it got screened. You can read it on deathlydragon's lj. <:) Oh, and you can find this one at the author's lj under their hd fic tag. :)
