Question to the Mods

Is the bottom!draco emporium run by any of you or is this community only an affiliate?

And if it's yes to the former: Will there be a new tbde link soon?

The reason I ask is that I'm willing to set up a temporary site that mirrors the old one until the owner(s) can contact me. -- So... What to do?

Well, it's been since Jan. 2004 since the old site was updated so I wasn't expecting any modifications. Just hoping for a new home to a site that most bottom!Draco lovers know and love.

I've contacted simmysim several days ago already, but have yet to receive a reply. It took her a long while to reply to my request to mod the community in her absence, so I'm guessing the same will happen again now... If you would be able to make a dummy website until she replies, however, it would be really a great help for us! :D

She updated her LJ today so maybe I'll get lucky... or I'll have to turn stalker. LOL.
I'm hoping to have a temp. site up by this weekend and have started editing the pages I have to show the pages I don't have. I managed to save all that was left of the site in July/August, which isn't much. 5 years of no TLC caused the site to decay.
- Unless Simmy replies with a big fat "No", then it'll become like the other geo-sites I saved and can only be requested in private.

I'm sure she will reply with a "Yes"... despite leaving the fandom I think she still loves our Bottom!Draco. So I'm excited for an updated website ;D

I've kept some of the fics there, myself, but not all.. I hope she still has a copy of the site... hmm...

I think you should go with making the site already, anyway, so it can be posted already once she says yes... Would it be possible for you to show it to us first when you are done with it? :D

Updated, no. The site's content hadn't been altered since '04 and that's what'll go back up. From the view of her LJs it looks like she has grown out of this fandom which would explain why the site was just sitting in web space oblivion. So maybe she would rather it just go away.

As for a copy of the site, I wouldn't offer to post one if I didn't already have one. The only problem is that a lot of the fic-links have died so I have to hunt down some alternates to post. Wayback is very helpful with that. But if Wayback and the rest of the internet fails me would you mind if I PM you?

I'm hoping to have it up by this weekend but I will withhold the link until I get the okay.

As west already mentioned, simmy only gave us permission to run the community so we have no control over what happens on the website.

However, we do have masterlists (http://community.livejournal.com/bottom_draco/510313.html) that we try to update as often as we can.

I'm afraid that if you want to make a new site you're going to have to ask each artist and author for permission to host their work. Your best bet really is to get in touch with simmy and discuss things with her. :)

Like I said above, I won't be updating anything. That is, unless Simmy allows it. Then perhaps I would posts the bottom_draco masterlists as like a rec-list since I don't have any author permissions. ut I already told her that I wasn't planning on changing a thing about the old site so that would be something I'd have to work out with her.

You never know, maybe she'll put it back up herself.

I guess, the most feasible thing for us to do is to map out options. As the other mods had explained, simmysim does take a while to respond--but she usually does, perhaps she's just busy. We can wait out her response for a bit and perhaps think about creating a new site with an updated master-list?

but our lists aren't in much order or complete yet so perhaps we need to gather up all our resources.

If ever, I have my hard drive with me, I have a complete list circa 2002--I'm just not entirely sure where the fics are hosted as of late but this way, we can all help out.

Who knows what's going to happen.

Maybe someone will make a site that is along the same lines as this community is now. The old tbde site doesn't really fit anymore which is why I found it a little strange that is was still set as the homepage. It would make sense to start one that is specially made for this community, rather than have a site that the community was made for. Did that make any sense?

As for dead links, google and wayback are heaven sent.

I just know that the old site would be better for me to handle than something newer and frequently updated. I'm a really bad webmaster when it comes to updating in a timely manner. Have to set up computer alerts and leave notes all over the place.

Although I guess, if we take the website as it is, we'll still have to start from scratch. I mean, I love the art, I love the fact that some stories featured are stories newbie b!Draco fans have never heard of, but the format is atrocious.

None of the pics from the pics section survived in my copy and that is very sad. I'll have to Wayback as many as I can. Despite the fics being older a lot of them are still very unknown to even the older generation of H/D shippers.

Agreed about the formating. It's very 90's and simple. But you gotta remember: it's Geocities, none of the coding was ever 'yay'able. It's so easy to obtain templates and code a site now.

If I did it that way then it it would be bare since most of the old authors from tbde have long since left the fandom. And anything new would be set up like a rec site. I really am not for stalking down each indiviual author.

It would be simple, just going ahead and doing it, but it could also have a very mess after math.
