"The heart dies a slow death, shedding each hope like leaves. Until one day there are none. No hopes. Nothing remains. She paints her face to hide her face. Her eyes are deep water. It is not for Geisha to want. It is not for geisha to feel. Geisha is an artist of the floating world. She dances, she sings. She entertains you, whatever you want. The rest is shadows, the rest is secret."
-Memoirs of a Geisha

This world has been called The Flower and Willow, a world that has been shrouded in secrecy and mystery and home to one of the oldest professions known in Japan. It’s a hidden world that only the most lucky and privileged of girls are thought to join, as not everyone can become a maiko, much less a Geisha. To become one, one must go trough an extensive and rigorous training process. Few made it to the last test, and even fewer passed it. Being a Geisha is not for everyone.

However, for Draco it was, he was the kimpatu maiko. The blond maiko.

He was a maiko renowned for his beauty; and was sought out by wealthy patrons desiring his company. Who did not want to have a beautiful person with them? Especially a beautiful kimpatu.

Everyday he would get up and start his dancing lessons all over again; a Geisha had to know the art of dance, music, pose, and the way to communicate. With out those four he would only be a painted face trying to pass as a Geisha. Life as a Geisha wasn’t as easy as many people would believe. Yes, they attended parties and they were respected, but still it was a world where only the most famous survived while and the lesser ones were left behind. Any Geisha’s reputation could be tarnished by a single word in the right ear.

As Draco brushed red paint on his bottom lip, all that he was allowed as a maiko, he thought of how he must prove to his older sister, his onee-san, that he was ready to become a full fledged Geisha. Alas, he still had five years as a maiko before he could be considered for the prestigious title.
The shoji opened as Draco was putting the last of his kanzash on his hair. Rising, he slipped on his kimono and obi with the help of a junior maiko and took one last look in the mirror.
Once he was done, he put on his okobo’s and joined his onee-san and a Geisha as they walked out into the night and to the party.

*.*.*.*

They got home around 2 am as the okiya’s social parties seemed to never end earlier than that. Once in his room, he was helped to remove the obi and the top kimono and was then left alone to continue disrobing by himself. He folded his clothes carefully and left them to the side, then wearily crawled on to his mat for the night.

*.*.*.*

The next day he left the okiya with his oldest sister and they ventured out into the day. He was still learning how to behave properly in public, so the only way to move around outside was with his older sister. He was waiting outside for his sister when a man came rushing out the door, running right in to him. Before he could fall, the man took hold of him from around his waist startling Draco in to looking up.

The man was taller than he by a few inches and he had the most beautiful green eyes he had ever seen. They both stood there with out moving, just looking at each other... but the moment was broken when his older sister came out and with a firm grip on his arm he pulled him away. He turned one last time to look at the man as they walked further away.

“What were you thinking, Draco?”

“I didn’t do anything.”

“You let him put his hands all over you.”

“I did no such thing, he crashed into me and I would have fallen if it wasn’t for him.”

“You’re only a maiko and a beginner one at that! If there is a blemish on your name okaa-san won’t be happy and people wont hire you.”

“But I didn’t do anything—”

“You can’t see him.”

“I don’t know him.”

“Well then that won’t be hard.”

Draco arrived outside the okiya and went to his room to wait, knowing that okaa-san would come any minute to give him the same lecture that his sister had given him.

*.*.*.*

That night, Draco found himself thinking about the green-eyed man as he got ready to perform once again. Arriving at the party and walking slightly behind his sister, to symbolize that he was still following in her footsteps, his thoughts wandered once more to messy hair, golden skin and the heat of the man’s hands as they caught him. Try as he might, every thought turned to his encounter that afternoon.

He served his clients tea, his stomach quietly rumbling. As Geisha and maiko, they were not aloud to eat or drink until their clients gave them permission to do so. Life as a Geisha wasn’t all fun and games. They spent most of their time hanging on the words of their clients, while secretly inside they were tired, bored and hungry. The men had gotten up and gone outside to the small garden inside the ozahiki and the other Geishas went with them. He stayed inside to order more tea for when they returned. Hearing a noise, he turned when again he crashed into someone.

“Forgive me.” A bow.

“No, forgive me as I didn’t see you.”

Draco straightened from his bow and kept his eyes down cast, in a show of respect. He felt a finger on his chin raising his face and he raised his eyes and encountered the same pair of eyes that he had looked upon before.

“I feel as we are always bumping into each other. What is your name?”

“I’m Sachi.”

“Hello, Sachi, I am Harry Potter.”

Again, he bowed, “It’s nice to meet you, Mr. Potter.”

“Don’t call me, Mr. Potter, call me Harry.”

“Harry.” He blushed as he said the name.

They sat down together, and Draco served him tea. As they conversed, Draco found out that he came from England for a business trip and that he had been invited tonight by one of the business man he came to talk to.

“I didn’t wanted to come tonight.”

“Oh, why not?”

“Because I needed to do more stuff, however, now that I came I am glad I did.” Harry said softly.

Draco looked up from pouring more tea and found his eyes captured by Harry’s. He felt his heart beat accelerate as Harry moved closer to him for a kiss, but before their lips could touch Draco got up.

“I can’t.”

“Why not?”

“It is forbidden. If we were to be caught I would be disgraced.”

Draco got up from the table and turned to leave. He was stopped by Harry’s hand grasping his tightly.

“Can I see you again? Before I leave?”

“Yes.” Draco whispered and left.

*.*.*.*

Harry smiled as he watched Draco interact with the other men on the balcony. Maybe he had just found a way to extend his trip indefinitely. Closing his palm to trap the heat from his beautiful ladies hand, he sighed softly.

Loved the merging of two worlds. It was very well done and definitely interesting. You caught the angles that were commonly overlooked and made Draco's journey longer and harder. It also made the journey of him and Harry ending up together all the more challenging. The ending was promising and hopeful. Just a note though, there are a couple of words misspelled. :)

Great story. What an interesting premise - Draco training to become a Geisha.
Love the ending an Harry wanting to stay and not return to England. Well done. :)

Very sweet story! Makes you want to know how it all turns out.

(Just a little note: there are a couple of spelling mistakes you should look over again. It's a pity to have them detract from your beautiful story!)
