By a bizarre stroke of luck, I stumbled across this touching novel-length piece that simply stayed stuck in my mind, rendering me all tingly and warm and so utterly touched, days after finishing it, that I felt it should be recommended here.
Well, I'll be honest and say that a large part of the the sequel's ('Still Figuring Out') Chapter 16 (only) hit a little too close (too sore) to home - that had tears dripping down my face. Strangely, my ex-boyfriend broke up with me in almost the same way too. And I reacted a bit too similarly to Ginny Weasley - right up to the very words that left her lips at the end of that chapter. That and that alone could be the reason why I loved this fic so much.
Could It Be Magic? by No1MournsTheWicked
Summary: When 2 boys meet, virtually, over a long lonely summer, they become unlikely friends. What will happen when their identities are finally revealed? And will it really make a lot of difference in the end? Eventual slash.
Notes: The boys started out snarking at each other through email - then, moving on to leaving notes. Sort of an epistolary fic. Warnings for violence, torture, both implied and blatant domestic abuse, child abuse, sexual abuse, implied non-con incest, character death (NOT Harry or Draco), homophobic bigotry, Ron and Hermione beingarses prats... oh and a Draco Malfoy in dyed black hair with a tattoo of his name on his left arm (NO DARK MARK).
SEQUEL: Still Figuring Out
Summary: Now that Harry and Draco know they like each other, what will happen next? As Harry struggles with his friends and Draco struggles with his past, will they make it very far?
Notes: The sequel explores deeper into Draco's past abuse and the blossoming relationship between the boys. Warnings for a clueless, sometimes a bit heartless Harry that at one point would make you so frustrated you'd feel like thumping him hard on his head, stomping on his foot and screaming 'NO, you clueless twit! Now, go make Draco feel better!'. Warnings for more homophobic bigotry, Ron/Hermione bashing, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, past incest and child abuse, funeral of a loved one and a depressed Draco that makes your heart ache something awful.
