I hope it's OK to post this, because it's not a fic or anything...
I have a question - Why do you prefer Draco to be bottom? I love it too of course, but it started because I pair him with Harry and couldn't imagine Harry not to be top (And it looks sooo good in my head). So what are your reasons? It will help me convince others in the rightness of bottom!Draco :)

Oh, and there's also this delicious ferret!Draco by the very talented [livejournal.com profile] yukipon, so you woldn't say I've been wasting your time.

Personally, I prefer Draco as a bottom because it's unexpected. In a lot of fics, people just assume that Draco would be the dominant one, the experienced one, the kinky one, but I like the unexpectedness of Harry being the Top in their relationship. It's funny you say you can't imagine Harry not being top, because I usually imagine Draco as the top (or at least that's how he would be if we went with most canon/fanon characterization).

I usually see Harry as having more qualities that characterize a bottom, like being trusting and emotionally vulnerable, whereas Draco is less emotional, more physical. I think Draco is also usually the one depicted as initiating the physical aspect of their relationship, whereas Harry is focused more on the emotional. So, I guess I like Draco as a bottom because it turns the usual pairing style on its' head (plus, Dom!Harry is completely hot)

Because, like you said, and a bunch of people have said before us, top!Draco is fanon. Some fanon things I can actually grow to like, but top!Draco and bottom!Harry aren't really my cup of tea. It boggles my mind actually.

i would have to say it's because Draco acts snobbish and whiney in the books which is some bottom characteristics, and Harry acts broody and more agressive than draco i think... then again, i read both because at the moment, i can see either of them being top, so i guess we'll have to wait and see if either of them 'mature' or change over the summer because they'll both be 16 in the next book! ;D

An excelent question, my dear. Here is a very good answer http://www.geocities.com/owrai_wa_no_baka/idlethoughts/rants/why.html

Also, I like bottom Draco because he's a pussy and a winy brat (and I love him so <3) and because Harry is a control freak. Besides, can you see Draco actually doing much in bed? He strikes more of the lie back and enjoy the attention kind of person. He woin't lift a finger if he doesn't have to *nodnod*

bottom!draco is my favorite thing in fandom!!
i mean, in canon, draco is described as being physcally delicate and small. he's not malnourished like harry or even ron, yet both of these "paupers" still outgrow him. tall!draco is purely tom felton thing. i can totally see him as the girly dolly type of pretty boy, who is a perfect bottom.
also, since draco is mostly paired with harry, and harry is like the biggest top there ever. i never believe in innocent!harry. i always imagined harry as not really physcally attractive (since only ginny had a crush on him... and she grows out of it), but not ugly either. harry always command in canon; he's quite a character of action, whereas draco is a character of talking.
draco is also more emotionally vulnerable. harry already shows the tendency of growing to be slowly hard-hearted, since he went through so much. draco, on the other hand, is always sheltered.
last but the most important, i like my favorite character in be bottom (to be pampered), so there! (and snape/draco is hot!!)

I totally agree with you tsosh. the majority of what people consider to be canon Draco IS mostly fanon that has been mistakenly taken as 'canon'. what JKR has written of draco's charac is very superficial. we know he's a bully when surrounded by his goons and he's a spoiled rich kid with a superiority complex. that's pretty much it.

I always see Harry as more dom simply because he is the hero. how can harry be expected to be the savior of the wizardry world and be botton to draco? there's just no way! at least in my opion. harry's the one that's kicked dark lord butt on numerous occasions and lived. he's the one that single-handedly killed the basilik. Draco on the other hand ran away screaming like a girl from the forbidden forest and was scared of harry's disembodied head throwing snow balls at him. In every confrontation he's had w/ harry, it's always harry who comes out on top (no pun intended!). we've yet to read of a single confrontation between draco (alone!) and any other character. Draco's a total puss!

also, i think many people have started to confuse Tom Felton's physic with Draco Malfoy's physical characterization. Tom's growth spur between PS and CoS has him now towering over harry in the movies. but in the books, draco and harry are about the same height, maybe he's even slighter shorter than harry. the majority of the fics i've read charac draco as taller and bigger than harry hence, harry as bottom. yuck!

so harry's gotten a bit emotional and moody on a few occasions. so what?! it's perfectly understandable given what he's gone through. i'd be pretty pissed myself if i was constantly being kept in the dark and considered too young despite all harry has already seen and done. it actually makes harry a stronger person. i can't see draco going through what harry has and actually coming out the better for it. in my opinion draco's just not strong or mature enough, emotionally or morally, to handle the situation as well as harry.

anyways...when it comes to h/d goodness, i'll always see draco as bottom, no questions asked.

i just read your comment after posting mine! the tom felton thing is right on!

draco malfoy is definitely a pretty boy...i see him as a jude law kind of guy. slim, kinda lanky, with delicate 'refined' features. not very built.

and harry...ummm...handsome in a tall dark and handsome kind of way...very male...serious and sexy, but never pretty! can't think who to compare him to though.

I think this would be canon ... Draco comes across as a very weak character who always needs somebody stronger to lean on - his father or Umbridge. He and his father are both very emotional in the books - I now stop reading any fics were Draco is the "ice-prince" or whatever, because he is NOT! His emotions can usually be read very clearly by Harry - like his greedy face in the fifth book, when he suggests accompanying Hermione and Umbridge in the Forbidden Forest. On their OWL examination Draco lets his glass fall when he sees Harry doing well - hardly something a composed, in-control ice-prince would do. Neither is Lucius - he starts a fistfight with Arthur Weasley.
Harry on the other is strong - I wouldn't say he ist he archetyp of a top, he is obviously a bit clumsy when it comes to relationships (but that might have been because Cho was wrong for him ...) but as he proved in the DA when it comes down to it, he has leader qualities.
This whole confusion between Tom Felton and Draco Malfoy begins to irritate me - although I think another reason is the assumption that since Slytherins are evil they must also be sexy, attractive, alluring, sarcastic, ironic, clever, witty etc.

Because he doesn't have the self-control or empathy necessary for topping someone. He doesn't care enough about other people's feelings not to hurt someone in the heat of the moment. He's selfish, spoiled, and has never had to practice self-restraint in his entire life.

Also, he's a wimp. He talks big, but he can't follow through. He's whiny and weak and submissive.

Those are my thoughts, anyway.
