Should anon posts (fic searches, recs, etc) be allowed? I don't understand the question. How can you post to a comm without an account?
Also: if you want to address community members and lurkers (=anons) with this post, maybe you should allow anon comments to this entry, so they could speak up if they wanted to. Otherwise I there's not much sense in this entry.
I believe you can. I don't often comment anon but there is a way to comment anon if anon comments are allowed (which the poll is leaning towards at the moment).
Good point when I get back to the computer I will work on the settings to allow others a voice. I just put "everyone" forgetting the comm is members locked (good job Kiss).
For this also, it was a thought I was kicking around in my own head about how we could make posts specifically for Anons to post recs and searches. The mods would create the posts for this use.
This... I was going to say that yes you can comment anon but to my knowledge you can not make a new post to a comm anon. You have to have a journal to post to a community. :D
i do however think that anon comments if allowed should be screened.
for the question regarding Bottom Draco Fest.. i chose winter! cos that reminds me of Draco, all white and perfect on the outside, beautiful on the inside!
The only thing that made me hesitate to pick 'Yes' is the fact that this community contains adult materials. If we allow anon to comment, we might not know whether nonny's above the consenting age or not. Well, I don't know if it's relevant since we wouldn't know who the anon was, but it kind of bothers my conscience *lol*. If there were an anonymous saying "whee I'm actually thirteen years old and I'll be strolling this community" we might or might not get this community in a deep shit, because we could be the ones getting the blame (of opening comm with adult materials to public).
Um, that's just my two cents. I'm saying this because I've lied about my age before, joined communities that clearly stated I should be 18+ of age when I was still 16, and it bothered me a lot until at last I left those comms and joined back after my 18th birthday.
Maybe the anonymity offers some comfort to people. But, I don't know, I lean more toward no anonymous comment in this. *shrugs*
Bottom Draco Fest, when would posting for said fest be ideal?
For posting, I'm flexible. But for prompting and the time given for doing the submission, I picked Winter or Summer. I just feel comfortable doing fest thingies during holidays. :D
I don't know about your conscience, but as far as the community's concerned, it's technically fine as long as it's marked as containing explicit material in the comm settings. And non-anon folks can lie about their ages as well (as you're noting, I think).
So long as the comm is marked as "this journal contains explicit material" or whatever the phrasing is we should be fine because we cannot stop underage viewers from clicking and continuing on. When I was 14 I signed up at Adultfanfiction and just put in an older birthday to the username I used. So even if people have an account that clearly states their age, that age could be false. I don't want you to think I am making your point invalid or that I am like GO ANON (Because to be objective I didn't vote on the questions about the anons because honestly I don't care one way or another I want what the community wants) I just want you to know that either way underage readers COULD be reading at our comm whether we know it or not. I'd like to be optimistic and believe they are all telling the truth, but I cannot say for sure that they all are. If the anon thing happens we will do our best to keep this comm protected and will definitely be watching all anon comments to check for any "Hey I am (underage age here) and have been looking for this fic" Not that many people do that but some slip through.
Thank you for your concerns and opinions, we value them all!
Anon = anonymous. Often refers to those without accounts or those choosing to post without logging in. The term isn't confined to fanfiction though lol. It's pretty much universal. Go google it if you're still confused.
About anon responses to comments: I'd only them to be moderated, so that mods can decided whether to unscreen them or not. There are lots of good reasons why someone wishes to comment anon, but there are also a couple of silly/offensive/disturbing ones, and I would not want to read such replies when perusing posts.
I'd love to have 1. another bottom!Draco fest ♥ 2. the bottom!Draco fest in spring, so it coincides time-wise with the dracotops_harry fest. This is just me, I am sure, but I'd love to read both fests at the same time. :)
Yes, especially in the beginning we talked about if the people want anon, and we go anon, we'd like to keep a close eye on what is happening within the comm and make sure that there is no flaming/trolling/etc. We definitely want what is best for the comm.
I would not want to read such replies when perusing posts. Nothing puts people off quicker than those rude wanky comments!
:) Thank you for your input it is greatly appreciated!
You can. I will note that :D and as of right now we are focusing on the comm first the fest question was just so when we are ready to do it we can start thinking of a timeline that works for the community. Since we want all the readers and all the love on the work at the B_DFest :D
Now how I like to do things is prompt about five-six months in advance and do claiming early that way so that there is a long writing period since I am one of those writers who enjoy a longer writing period. But the fest and how we run it will be determined by all the mods as a group effort. I just run the polls to answer some of the questions we've been asking ourselves. So this question will be for posting. We can run the whole fest in three months but that seems very chaotic and time consuming to me and most writers are participating in lots of fests so I prefer the longer writing period like I've said. :)
I'm really happy with any time of year for the fest, though I have a mild preference for winter. It would be rather hard to work with this Autumn though, September in particular, as I'm getting married then and our honeymoon is only a few days after.
Regarding anon posting ... I voted no because I personally feel that if you are going to comment on a fic that someone poured a lot of hard work into, you should own up to your remarks and not hide behind the cloak of anonymity.
I think whether or not someone is allowed to comment anon is really only going to affect the number of comments a writer gets. If someone doesn't want to put their name on a comment, if they don't have the option to do it anon, they just won't comment (and there can be all sorts of reasons to post as anon that have nothing to do with being rude: for instance, maybe they have one LJ account where their identity is obvious to anyone who knows them [perhaps they use it for personal reasons, professional writing, school related activities, political commentary, specific interest groups, etc...anything not fandom] and they don't want those people to know they read/comment on fanfic).
So the writer will receive fewer comments, ultimately. While allowing anon postings might upset the writer/other readers (if the anon comments are occasionally rude), not allowing them only hurts the writer (there are plenty examples are very wonderful, thoughtful anon comments). As someone who reads and doesn't write, it takes a lot of time and effort to write a thoughtful comment. If I didn't want to attach my username to it, I just wouldn't comment.
On a personal note/just as an aside: I have never commented as anon unless a posting specifically asks for that, but I do find IP address tracking really anti-privacy. For that reason, I don't track IP addresses on my journal. It's strange to me that in fandom, where so many people are really concerned with their privacy and keeping the real identity cloaked, there's such resistance to anon posting, commenting, and almost everyone whose journal I've been on tracks IP addresses. Seems like a bit of a contradiction. *shrugs*
For fest timing I'd suggest posting in either Jan/Feb or Mar/Apr. I also think Vaysh has a really interesting idea about coinciding it around or near the bottom!Harry fests.
To make a posting date of mid-Jan we'd need to do something like: pimp: Sept? prompt: begin Oct claim: mid Oct due: begin Jan post: mid Jan
I think that this could be a yes. However, maybe they should be screened to prevent trolling? Trolling is annoying and a waste of my time lol so I don't want to deal with it.
